As pet parents we know that our pup’s breath can be at times a little stinky! Maybe it’s those sardines for breakfast or that bone they’ve been working on for days! These are a great natural, homemade “Greenies” style dog biscuit recipe that will freshen their breath with the help of parsley, mint, spirulina and activated charcoal. All the ingredients can be picked up in the health food aisle of most supermarkets, or from your local bulk health food supply store!
- 1/2 cup fresh or dried parsley
- 1/2 cup fresh or dried mint
- 1 large organic egg
- 2 cups chickpea flour
- 1 tbsp activated charcoal
- 1/2 cup (125ml) beef bone broth
- 3 tbsp coconut oil, melted
- 1 tbsp spirulina powder
- 2 tbsp liquid chlorophyll
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celcius. Line a cookie tray or baking sheet with baking paper (preferably waxed).
In a food processor or high powered blender, blitz all the dry ingredients then add in the broth, coconut oil, chlorophyll and egg. Pulse until a dough is formed (it should start to come together to form a ball).
Roll out the dough on a floured surface. If the dough is too sticky, add more chickpea flour. If it’s too dry, add a little water or more broth. Cut into your preferred shape and place on the tray.
Bake in the oven for 15 minutes or until dry/hard and crispy. Allow to cool on a wire rack then serve! If dehydrating, place on trays in the dehydrator and then dehydrate for around 6 hours at 60 degrees. Store in an airtight container for 2-3 weeks.
Note: If you want the fancy swirl in the pic, then blitz all the ‘green ingredients’ (parsley, mint, spirulina, chlorophyll, plus charcoal) together first. Set aside. Then go ahead and blitz the chickpea flour, oil, egg and broth together. Transfer to a bowl. Add in the green mix and swirl through, then roll!
